NoVA Contractor Hub
For Contractors
Every score is calculated algorithmically from publicly available data. No contractor can pay to improve their ranking. Rankings are independent opinions provided for informational purposes.
The largest single factor in the Visibility Score. We look at both the average rating and total volume of Google reviews. A high volume of high-quality reviews signals a well-established, trusted business.
Google rating from 1.0–5.0. Ratings of 4.0+ score progressively higher.
Total number of Google reviews. More reviews indicate wider customer reach and longevity.
How recently reviews were posted. Contractors with recent activity score higher than those with stale review profiles.
Google Business Profile public data. We do not evaluate the content of individual reviews.
A contractor's website is often a homeowner's first impression. We evaluate whether a site exists and whether it meets modern standards for speed, security, and mobile usability.
Whether a live website is publicly accessible via a verifiable domain.
Whether the site uses HTTPS encryption, a basic security standard.
Estimated page load time. Sites loading in under 3 seconds score better.
Whether the site renders correctly on mobile devices, which account for the majority of homeowner searches.
Local search visibility is critical for home service contractors. We evaluate how well a contractor appears in local searches relevant to their trade and service area.
Whether the contractor has a verified, complete Google Business Profile with hours, categories, and contact info.
Position in Google's "local pack" (map results) for relevant trade searches in their city.
Whether operating hours are publicly listed — a basic trust signal for homeowners.
Availability of verifiable phone numbers and addresses in public directories.
Active social media presence is a secondary trust signal. We check whether a contractor maintains a visible presence on major platforms.
Whether a public Facebook business page exists and is linkable.
Whether a public Instagram profile exists associated with the business.
Home service contractors should carry licenses and insurance. We check for public signals that indicate a contractor is properly credentialed — though we do not verify licenses independently.
Whether the contractor's website or profile publicly mentions licensing, which is required for many trade types in Virginia.
Whether the contractor's public presence mentions liability insurance — a key protection for homeowners.
Whether the business website describes specific services offered, indicating an established professional operation.
Whether the Google Business Profile is listed as currently operational.
A contractor's Visibility Score places them into one of five tiers. Tiers are assigned automatically based on the numeric score — not manually curated.
Excellent reviews, fast website, and strong local presence. Highest visibility among homeowners.
Solid fundamentals with minor gaps. Well-established business with good online presence.
Functional presence with clear areas to improve. Competitive market may limit lead flow.
Significant gaps in online presence. Competitors likely appear more prominently to homeowners.
Minimal online visibility. Business may be underrepresented in search results.
Visibility Scores represent an independent, algorithmic assessment of publicly available signals. A high score does not guarantee contractor quality, performance, or customer satisfaction. Always verify licensing, insurance, and get multiple quotes before hiring.
We collect data from publicly accessible sources including Google Business Profiles, contractor websites, and public directories. We do not contact contractors, verify credentials directly, or have access to private business records.
Ranking position is determined solely by the Visibility Score algorithm. Contractors cannot pay to increase their score or change their ranking. Featured badges are available for Elite-tier contractors only and appear above the ranked list — they do not affect the underlying score.
Contractor data is refreshed periodically. Scores reflect the state of publicly available information at the time of the most recent update and may not reflect recent changes to a business's online presence.
If your business is listed and you believe data is inaccurate, you can contact us to request a review. We will investigate and update listings where data is verifiably incorrect.
